General Raymond Khattar is the director general of the Lebanese Civil Defense (Fire Department). He is a career Army brat and served from 1982 until his recent appointment in 2011 in several distinguished military positions including liaison officer between the Lebanese Armed Forces and the U.S. Military Cooperation Office; military attaché at the Lebanese embassy in Washington, D.C., director of the Office of the Minister of Defense, and acting general director of the General Security.

General Khattar received several medals and decorations including the National Order of the Cedar; the U.S. Legion of Merit, and the Medal of National Unity. He graduated from the Lebanese Military Academy and perused military courses at the French Artillery and the Fouad Shehab College in Lebanon. General Khattar is married to Yolla Gerges and they have three children all residing in Lebanon.
