Mr. Ed Tubel has been president of Tricor, Inc. for 34 years. He was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, attended Bishop Kenny High School and worked for his father at Jax Cigar and Candy Company, an area wholesale distributor. Ed attended the University of Florida where he received his BS in Advertising and his MBA in Marketing, while at the same time working his way through college in sales with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He began his career in retail marketing with ExxonMobil (1971-78) in Florida. He served as Southeast Region's Financial and Business Analysis Supervisor responsible for sales, business, investment and disinvestment analysis. He completed his Exxon career as a Public Affairs Specialist and Exxon's Southeast Regional State Government Lobbyist.In 1978, Ed opened one of the first franchised barbeque restaurants for Sonny's Real Pit Bar B Q and, in 2004, was Sonny's largest franchisee, operating 15 locations in Florida, and North and South Carolina. In 1989, Tricor was chosen over 18 other local and national restaurant chains to open First Union's Corporate Restaurant Prism's Restaurant in Charlotte at Two First Union Center. In total Tricor has built and opened 27 restaurants and they currently operate 5 Charlotte area restaurants. Ed is active in many Charlotte non-profit organizations including Chairman of the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association Board; Board member of Sonny's Franchisee Cooperative Association; Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Foundation and Central Piedmont Community College Hospitality Advisory Board.In addition to his varied work and leadership experiences, Ed served on various boards including; Chairman of Florence Crittenden Services; Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Drug Free Alliance; founder and past President of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Restaurant Association; Board member on the North Carolina Restaurant Association; received the 1992 and 1995 Sonny's Franchisee of the year award; the 1999 North Carolina Small Business Administration Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the 2003 Floyd E. 'Sonny' Tillman Distinguished Contribution Award. |
